Following the successful delivery, the customer placed a repeat order for a second tank of the same configuration, which is now in the final stage of manufacture at ERGIL&rsquo;s Mersin facility ahead of inspection.<\/p>\n<p>The tank, originally constructed in 1993 to API 650 with an internal diameter of 54.3 metres and a nominal capacity of approximately 39,000 m&sup3;, forms part of a wider programme to refurbish and upgrade bulk fuel storage assets in the country. Its existing external steel floating roof was removed and replaced with a self-supporting clear-span aluminium dome and an internal floating deck &mdash; an arrangement that eliminates rainwater and debris ingress, reduces evaporative product loss, and removes the maintenance burden associated with external floating roof drainage and seal systems.<\/p>\n<p>Erection at site was carried out by a local contractor, working to ERGIL&rsquo;s design documentation, erection procedure and installation drawings.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-2 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two su-pr__h2\" style=\"--awb-text-color:var(--awb-color8);--awb-margin-top:40px;--awb-margin-bottom:16px;--awb-margin-top-small:24px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:12px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;--awb-margin-top-medium:32px;--awb-margin-bottom-medium:14px;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"margin:0;text-transform:none;--fontSize:32;line-height:var(--awb-typography1-line-height);\">Engineering the Existing Asset, Not Just the New Equipment<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3 su-pr__body\"><p>The technical challenge in a refurbishment of this kind lies less in the new equipment than in the tank receiving it. A tank in service for more than three decades does not present the geometry its original drawings describe.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&ldquo;On a new-build tank, you design to a drawing. On a refurbishment, you design to a measurement, and the two are rarely the same. We began by verifying and analyzing the tank calibration reports before any design work started. That review told us where the shell had gone out of round and where the tolerances would fight us during erection. Every issue we found was engineered out in the design&mdash;not discovered on site by the erection crew. Dome roofs and floating roofs look simple and are not. They are structural aluminium engineering problems with a hydrocarbon safety case attached.&rdquo;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>&mdash; Tun&ccedil; T&uuml;reli, Engineering Manager, ERGIL<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That analysis fed directly into the delivered scope. ERGIL&rsquo;s engineering team developed a jacking arrangement suited to the tank&rsquo;s measured condition to allow safe, controlled installation of the dome, and specified support details capable of distributing dome loads into an out-of-round shell without exceeding the radial force limits set by API 650 Appendix G.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-3 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two su-pr__h2\" style=\"--awb-text-color:var(--awb-color8);--awb-margin-top:40px;--awb-margin-bottom:16px;--awb-margin-top-small:24px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:12px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;--awb-margin-top-medium:32px;--awb-margin-bottom-medium:14px;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"margin:0;text-transform:none;--fontSize:32;line-height:var(--awb-typography1-line-height);\">Full Storage Tank Scope from a Single Source<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-4 su-pr__body\"><p>Alongside the dome and internal floating roof, ERGIL supplied the tank&rsquo;s fire-fighting cooling system, engineered for a fixed-roof tank with an internal floating deck in accordance with NFPA requirements &mdash; a change of duty from the external floating roof configuration for which the tank was originally protected.<\/p>\n<p>The Storagetech&trade; aluminium geodesic dome roof is a fully triangulated space truss in 6061-T6 aluminium with non-corrugated 3003-H16 closure panels, clear span and self-supporting from the tank periphery, with horizontal thrust contained by an integral tension ring. The design complies with API 650, ISO EN 1090, AWWA and ASCE 7, and is engineered to local wind and seismic parameters rather than to a generic load case.<\/p>\n<p>The full-contact internal floating roof uses a closed-cell polyurethane module core, which is non-flammable and spark-proof, delivering buoyancy without the vapour space that sits beneath a pontoon-type deck. Modules are prefabricated to pass through an existing tank manhole, requiring no cutting of the shell, no crane, and no welding inside the tank &mdash; a decisive advantage on a brownfield refurbishment site. Storagetech&trade; has more than 500 full-contact floating roofs in service, some of them over 25 years old.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&ldquo;A refurbishment owner does not want to coordinate four suppliers across a shutdown window. The dome, the internal floating roof, the venting, and the fire-fighting system all came from one engineering team, to one set of drawings, with one point of responsibility.
