Flame Arrestor

Project Overview and Challenge

In 2009, Gazprom and Srbijagas signed the Agreement on setting up a joint venture for the Banatski Dvor Underground Gas Storage (UGS) facility. Located in Serbia, the Banatski Dvor UGS is one of the largest and most strategic gas storage facilities in Southeastern Europe. The facility was officially commissioned in November 2011 and since then has played a crucial role in ensuring regional energy security and balancing seasonal gas demand fluctuations.

The Banatski Dvor UGS boasts a working gas capacity of 450 million cubic meters, allowing it to store significant volumes of natural gas. It has a maximum daily deliverability rate of 5 million cubic meters, enabling quick and efficient distribution to meet peak demand periods. This high deliverability makes it a vital asset for gas transmission networks in the region, improving supply reliability and enhancing market flexibility.

In addition to its impressive storage capacity, the facility is equipped with state-of-the-art safety and operational technologies. One critical safety component integrated into the Banatski Dvor UGS is the flame arrestor system. Flame arrestors are essential devices installed in gas storage and transmission facilities to prevent flame propagation and potential explosions. By stopping flames from traveling through pipelines and equipment, these flame arrestors safeguard both the infrastructure and personnel, ensuring uninterrupted and safe gas supply.

The joint venture between Gazprom and Srbijagas reflects a strong commitment to developing modern energy infrastructure and strengthening cooperation in the European gas market. The Banatski Dvor UGS facility not only supports Serbia’s energy needs but also contributes to the broader stability of the Southeastern European gas grid.

Overall, the Banatski Dvor UGS facility is a benchmark project in underground gas storage, combining large-scale capacity, high deliverability, and advanced safety systems such as flame arrestors. This makes it a key element in the region’s efforts to secure sustainable and reliable energy supplies for the future.
